Ministry and $$$

If you want to work for God, why do you have to pay big bucks for the knowledge to do God's work?

Why does it have to accredited through the government?

Is this what the early church had in mind?

Why do you have to spend 4 years in seminary/college when you could be doing ministry?

These are the questions I ask as I ponder my future in youth ministry. I want to be in vocational ministry more than anything in the world, but I don't have thousands of dollars to burn! Nor do I want to spend years in school that could be used to help people. This angers me. It reminds me of the sellers in the temple in Jesus' day. You had to buy animals from the sellers to sacrifice - at quite a hefty price! This made it harder for people to give sacrfices to their Lord.

"When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!" " John 2:13-16

I know that knowledge of God's word and of His people is infinitely necessary to have a leadership role in the church, but are we supposed to go into debt to get it?
